Over the summer your officer and advisor team attended both the International Honors Institute in Wheaton, Illinois as well as the Texas Honors Institute in Brenham at Blinn College for intensive study of this year’s Phi Theta Kappa Honors Topic “Gold, Gods, and Glory; the Global Dynamics of Power”.
There were several enlightening lectures from such speakers as Ralph Begleiter, professor and past CNN correspondent, who presented “Global Media and the Power of Images; Or What ‘They’ Think of Us and Why It Matters”, an exploration of images and symbols and their impact on global attitudes toward America, as well as Reza Aslan’s “How to Win a Cosmic War”, a wonderful presentation of ideas from his new book and his thoughts on Islam and where the United States stands on its “War on Terror”.
The well developed programs for these events helped your officer and advisor team shape this year’s Honors Topic projects and goals which we hope will reflect our knowledge of the topic and the impact Omega Sigma can have on our community.
