Book Drive for Africa Begins!

In 2006, Phi Theta Kappa and Better World Books began a partnership that has offered a unique fundraising opportunity to Phi Theta Kappa chapters.  During the 07-08 academic school year the Omega Sigma Chapter will be partnering with Better World Books to run a book drive project entitled “Books for Africa”.
Who is Better World Books?  Better World Books is a social venture dedicated to improving the quality of life for people worldwide through literacy and education.  Better World Books accepts books that are in merchantable condition (i.e. no water damage, mildew/mold, missing pages, spine damage, etc.).

What can your qualifying books do for Africa?  100 books can fund the shipment of 400 books; enough to provide for one classroom in Africa.  250 books can fund the shipment of 1000 books; enough to provide for one African school library.

What can we do to help?

This year, our goal is to collect 1500 books throughout the Fall and Spring semesters. Collection boxes are placed by the book store at various campuses, so you can drop in your used books and encourage your classmates to do the same.  We will also be collecting used books at our meetings where you can earn points toward your Enhanced Membership Program.

Progress report for the Month of August: We started this book drive August 21st  and to date have collected about 35 qualified college books which are already packaged and ready to be shipped.  Please expect more reports of our progress as we get closer to our goal.

Thanks for your support and remember that, together we can all make a difference!
